This work explores my ancestry. It is a series titled "Papou to infinity" (Title is in Greek). Papou is Greek for Grandfather. My Papou after whom I was named came out from the tiny Greek island of Kythera, to Australia in the early 1900's. It speaks of the ephemeral nature of memory and brevity of life. My time with him was fleeting as he passed over...died....kicked off etc, when I was only a baby but lives large in my mind through the stories my YA YA (Grandmother) told me.
This work explores my Kytherian ancestry. The image was done from a hand coloured photograph from the early 1900's. It is of my Great Grand Parents. My Great Grandfather came in from ploughing his field he was 103 years old. He told his wife that he was tired and was going to take a nap, he died peacefully in his sleep. Several years later my Great Grandmother passed over at the age of 107. The text in the background of the image is in Greek and is fragmented recollections my father wrote for me
